Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East are impacting the fluoropolymer industry at an already tense time. Companies in Europe along the chemical value chain are increasingly confronted with unstable supply chains, rising costs, and growing planning uncertainty \u2013 with noticeable effects on production, supply security, and competitiveness.<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p>The fluoropolymer industry is highly dependent on imported preliminary products, making it disproportionately affected by global market disruptions. Higher crude oil and natural gas prices are significantly driving up the costs of raw materials, production, and logistics in the chemical<br\/>industry. At the same time, disruptions to central shipping routes, rising freight rates, and higher insurance and container costs are further burdening international trade flows. Supply risks and dynamic price increases for essential starting materials for fluoropolymers such as fluorspar, sodium chloride, sulfuric acid, methanol, or methane significantly increase economic pressure. As a result, manufacturers are increasingly forced to pass on cost increases along the value chain to maintain production and supply security.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"gb-text\">Structural Weaknesses Meet New Geopolitical Burdens<\/h3>\n\n<p>Current developments are exacerbating an already tense situation in Europe: the decline in domestic production capacities due to site relocation and regulatory uncertainties \u2013 particularly in connection with the PFAS restriction proposal from the<br\/>European Chemicals Agency \u2013 further weaken the competitiveness of the fluoropolymer industry. Against this backdrop, resilient and sustainable value chains continue to gain importance. The member companies of the pro-K Industrial Association are therefore increasingly committed to expanding a functioning circular economy for fluoropolymers.<\/p>\n\n<p>Dr. Michael Schlipf, spokesperson for the pro-K Fluoropolymergroup, explains: \u201cThe technological prerequisites for safe end-of-life solutions and<br\/>a circular economy for fluoroplastics are available in Germany and Europe.
